Hello, yes I'm doing a lot of research on bee hives and to answer your question about which board is the followup board and being a novice at this I am under the impression that the follower board is a divider to the main hive, set up to limit the area to the bees for there hives ,it is the one that just about blocks the front of the hives on the inside of the box .in the picture above on the right, its the plywood with the label in the right hand corner . I can asume that there is just enough room for the bee's to migraite to the back section were the brood queen would be located.
Hope this helps BOB...

Lost one of the hives..it had constant troubles....bad queen, got flipped over in a flood and then taken out by a critter. Made a new feeder for the surviving hive and will look in on them tomorrow Oct 25 2009.
Look me up on Facebook to see pictures of the top bar hives and feeders etc.

Thank you for all of this great information, we can't wait till spring now to try your TBH design.
Is there any fellow Michiganders out there who have tried TBH's yet, and if so, how well did you do?

Thanks again,

The easiest way to convert from inch to cm is to take the INCH # in decimal format and multiply it by 2.54. Multiply that by 10 to get MM!

I am interested in building a TBH. I would like to ask how well your bees overwintered this year? Thanks for your plans

Thanks for your work. I have downloaded and printed the drawings. Sufficient measurements seem to be on the drawings. I will modify the roof to incorporate a ridge vent, using shingles for the exterior covering. Another concern I have is the top bar sitting high against the roof. How far is the rail below the wall edge? How would you have the top bars higher to allow easier removal? I would suggest leaving the bars sitting below the wall edge but fasten a couple cabinet knobs on each bar, not interfering with the roof, to enable easier removal.
